Check your local TV listings. I saw that many stations will have specials about the 10th anniversary of 9-11. From what I heard, the National Geographic will host the best of them, though they all will be worth watching.

Firefighters' 6,000-Mile Quest for 9/11 Memorial

With the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., less than a month away, one town in Washington state is working on a special plan to remember the victims.

That's why two firefighters from Federal Way, Wash. are on a 6,000-mile journey.

For the last two years, South King Fire and Rescue has been been trying to obtain a beam from the World Trade Center for their city's 9/11 memorial. Their dream will soon become a reality.

"We're getting a piece of steel and we decided that we wanted to bring it back to the community to make a memorial to all the people that were lost on that day," firefighter Sven Schievink said.

Schievink and Lt. Scott Mahlen took their own personal time to drive cross-country to New York to bring the beam back.

They used Mahlen's truck and a trailer borrowed from another firefighter.

"They had the option of the piece being shipped over in a truck and essentially they said, 'No. No. No. We will go pick that piece up because it deserves that honor,'" said Kendra Kay, public information officer for the fire department.

"And so it is, bringing that here is just part of the honor and part of the whole process of bringing that here and reflecting on what happened and never forgetting," she added.

The two men are staying with firefighters in cities along the way and taking the time to visit each of the 9/11 crash sites.

They're also posting updates throughout their journey at the South King Fire and Rescue Facebook page.

On Aug. 30, the beam will arrive in Federal Way where it will become a permanent memorial to those lost on 9/11.

The next story intrigued me because I saw some of the “Learn Our History” series and they are really worth seeing.

Huckabee Works to Teach Kids 9/11 History

For most Americans who lived through it, September 11, 2001 still evokes strong and often painful emotions. But for those who were children at the time and have grown up in a post-9/11 world, there's no real understanding of that attack on America and the war on terror that followed.

Because of this, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has released an animated film called "9/11 and the War on Terror."

The movie is part of his "Learn Our History" film series designed to help young people understand why Islamic terrorists attacked the United states, and to help make sense of the tragedy America faced.

Through "Learn Our History," Huckabee said he wants kids to discover America's rich past and most influential people.

He said he hopes the animated series will also build a strong sense of pride and appreciation for this country.

Each video stars teenaged characters who travel back in time and relive history in the making. Other "Learn Our History" productions include "Origins of World War II," "The Reagan Revolution," "The American Revolution," and more.

Columnist: World Mum as Christians Tortured, Killed

The world is standing silently by while Christians in Muslim countries are being killed, and their murderers are being honored, according to one columnist.

"Today, Christians, regardless of affiliation, are being systematically harassed, persecuted, and murdered throughout the Middle East, the region of the globe from which Christianity first emerged," American Thinker's Cheryl Halpern wrote.

The former head of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides some of the funding for National Public Radio and PBS, noted that "churches have been bombed and those attending Christian services have been killed."

"Christian homes have been ransacked and cemeteries have been destroyed," she added. Muslims who've converted to the Christian faith are considered apostates, she explained, and subjected to severe punishment.

"This can only be called religious cleansing on a vast scale," she charged.

Halpern says political and religious leaders must stand up to Islamic governments that tolerate and promote that kind of persecution.
